Important Note
The LM7805, LM7809, and LM7812 are linear voltage regulators, not switching DC-DC converters. The input voltage must be higher than the selected output voltage. The voltage difference is dissipated as heat, so an appropriate heatsink may be required when operating with higher load currents or a large input-to-output voltage difference.
